the ring 2
well, it didn't suck. i guess if you were a big fan of the original, i'd say go and see it. otherwise, you might want to hold off. the main problem is it's just not all that scary. i feel like i have "the grudge" to blame for this....after enduring that nightmare, "the ring 2" was about as scary as "the care bears movie". and some of the stuff they try to pull off here just fails......like when the CG deers attack rachel and aiden's car....it's hilariously strange. admittedly, the film retains some of the creepy imagery of the original....but that's also kind of a problem. it starts to feel like they've only got two tricks up their sleeve, and they keep pulling them out. anyway, on a side note, i'm pretty sure i was in the same theatre as local movie-jerk tim miller (during the scene with sissy spacek, two kids in front of us remarked how much she looked like michael jackson... miller referenced that in his review...so either she really does look like the king of pop, or i was just a few rows behind him). over the last few years, this man has lost what little dignity he had to begin with. i think i really started having a problem with this guy when he knocked around all three "lord of the rings" movies. but he's so lazy with his reviews. it's not uncommon to read one of his reviews, and hear things like "some creepy kid", or in the case of "the ring 2", "for some reason" this or that...i mean, is he really having that hard of a time keeping up with the plot in a movie like this, or is he falling asleep in his seat? oh, he's also really hung up on the "bad hair day" that sumara, "that creepy kid" is having throughout the film. i know how obsessive i sound, getting worked up over a local movie critic, but he just gets it wrong time and time again. plus, he's getting paid to write about movies, while i have to do it all sneaky-like when i'm at work. anyway, a big FU to tim miller.

Tim Miller hit on my second-cousin at Solaris... That weekend, she was obsessed with reading his review- she was convinced he would write her into it- specifically, her opinion that the movie sucked. Then he whips out a 4-star glistening review- and broke her heart.
So, yeah- FU, Tim Miller.

we really ought to find out what movies he's going to, and terrorize him just to see if we can make it into his review. and if we can't, we'll get arrested and get our names in the paper either way.
also, why didn't your cousin like "solaris"? that's one of those movies (along with "eyes wide shut"), that for some reason, i really enjoy when it's well past bedtime and i can barely keep my eyes open.
Not sure- she was going for a George Clooney love story- instead she got a living planet.
I thought it was better than the original. But not really memorable... Eyes Wide Shut on the other hand- Kubrick's career best (except for Strangelove)!
When Russ does movie night at the Anchor, we're going to try to get Tim Miller to MC- then we can bitch and persuade him to be a better critic...
